Dungeness Crab Uramaki Roll
Ingredients
- 200 g uncooked sushi rice
- 120 g BC-caught Dungeness crab meat, shucked
- ½ avocado thinly sliced
- ½ cucumber thinly sliced (seeds removed)
- 100 ml sushi vinegar Fukasaku recommended
- 2 full roasted nori seaweed sheets cut in half lengthwise
- Sesame seeds optional
Instructions
Prepare the sushi rice
- Rinse the sushi rice according to package instructions. If required, soak it in water for at least 60 minutes for best results.
- Cook the rice according to package directions.
- Once cooked, mix the rice with 100ml sushi vinegar using a cutting motion to avoid crushing the grains.
- Cover with a damp towel and let cool for 30 minutes.
Assemble the rolls
- Place a sheet of nori on a sushi mat covered with plastic wrap.
- Spread the rice evenly over the nori using moistened fingertips. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
- Flip the nori over so the rice is facing down against the plastic wrap.
Add the fillings
- Use a folded sheet of nori as a guide to measure the cucumber length.
- Place two cucumber strips in the center of the nori.
- Arrange two thin slices of avocado parallel to the cucumber, closer to you.
- Evenly distribute the crab meat over the avocado.
Roll the sushi
- Position the sushi roll about ½ inch from the edge of the mat.
- Using the mat, carefully lift and roll it over the fillings, gently pressing to pack everything together.
- Continue rolling until the seam is at the bottom, ensuring a firm, even roll.
Slice the rolls
- Wet the tip of a sharp knife. Tap the handle on the cutting board twice to let water drip down the blade.
- Cut the roll in half. Place the two halves side by side and cut again to form four equal pieces.
- Repeat once more to create eight symmetrical sushi pieces.

Serving Tip
For a visually appealing presentation, “butterfly” open the left and right end pieces and press them together, ensuring the nori seam is hidden. Enjoy! (Itadakimasu!) Tried this recipe?Mention @weheartbccrab or tag #weheartbccrab!
